What are they afraid of?

Why are Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, and now also acting National Security Advisor, along with his cohorts in Congress—Mario Díaz-Balart, Carlos Gimenez, and, lest we forget, the belle of this perverted ball, Maria Elvira Salazar—so afraid to speak up when Trump does something that they’ve been railing against for years?

For example, Marco Rubio has a long history of seeing the bad in Russian President Vladimir Putin and all things Russian. But suddenly, under Trump, he seems to have fallen in love with Putin and all things Russian. It’s the same Putin, by the way, who, not too long ago, Rubio called a “war criminal,” a “thug,” and a “merciless tyrant.”

Then we have the three Stooges serving in Congress from South Florida, who refer to themselves as Cuban Americans. These three, and I include the fourth, Marco Rubio, have very little Cuban about them. Two of the four have never set foot in Cuba, for starters. The other two…

In my opinion, they need to remove the word Cuban before the term ‘Cuban American.’ It is not feasible to me how a Cuban would wish hunger and death on brothers and sisters on the Island. And all four do.

Regarding the Díaz-Balarts, who would likely take pride in their Cuban ancestry, they will probably fail to mention that the name Díaz-Balart is fraught with ties to corruption.

But let me return to my opening question: Why are they so quiet (in fact, at times they seem to hide) when the Trump administration and all MAGA-like Trumpers deport (and sometimes sent to be tortured) Cubans, Venezuelans, Haitians, and some others (Muslim, Blacks, and Latinos)? Many legal citizens of this country. Where have these four been hiding when Cubans, Venezuelans, and Haitians are routinely picked up, roughed up, and deported for no good reason?

Were they not elected to defend and protect these folks?

So many other things can be pointed out that they ignore. For example, all three members of Congress represent districts with the highest concentration of constituents enrolled in the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). They claim to represent them, but in Washington, when nobody is looking, they vote against Obamacare every chance they get. Later, they tell their constituents, “We’re working hard for you.” And then vote against them in Congress.

I recently read an editorial in the Miami Herald that piqued my interest. It discussed the tropical and subtropical cyclones that have impacted Florida in the 21st century, resulting in over $236 billion in damage and 615 fatalities.

“Florida is weeks away from the official start of hurricane season on June 1, and it’s at risk of not being prepared when a major hurricane hits,” it read.

“Key agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Weather Service (NWS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have experienced budget and staff cuts. These agencies are responsible for hurricane forecasting, preparedness and helping Floridians in the aftermath,” the Herald adds. It continues by stating, “In an open letter to the American public, five former heads of the NWS wrote that 300 employees left the agency and 250 were fired or took a buyout offered by the Trump administration in early February. That accounts for 10% of NWS staffing, they wrote.

“The reality is deeply unsettling, especially as forecasters are calling for an above average hurricane season this year with 17 named storms and nine hurricanes.”

Have you heard a word from our South Florida cowards about the possible dangers of the upcoming hurricane season? Or have they expressed any concerns about the prospect of death and destruction that may result from the Trump administration’s cuts to government agencies that monitor and study these catastrophic climatic events?

NOT ONE WORD!

¿A qué le temen?

The Herald editorial adds, “The impact of staffing cuts has led to infrequent weather balloon launches, weakening storm monitoring capabilities and the end of 24/7 weather monitoring. Forecasting delays can cost lives, especially in Florida, where hurricanes can develop rapidly and intensify overnight.

“These aren’t just inconvenient missteps. Minutes matter in hurricane-prone Florida. Delays in forecasting or issuing warnings is the difference between having time to evacuate and being trapped in the middle of a storm.”

Hurricane season in Florida is just around the corner. One would hope that, at the very least, the members who represent us in Washington, D.C., would fight against budget cuts affecting agencies that can mean the difference between life and death for the more than 20 million residents in this state. Instead, these members remain silent, not wanting to raise the ire of the Tyrant in Chief (TiC) who rules over this country.

And all for what? So that Donald Trump can then turn to his billionaire friends and reward them with precisely what they do not need: a tax cut. Or does one believe that a billionaire’s lifestyle will be affected by making a few million dollars less — in tax dollars that could have saved millions of lives? Right here in the U.S.!

Marco Rubio, Mario Diaz-Balart, Carlos Gimenez, and Maria Elvira Salazar, you have all been found guilty of negligence toward your constituents and defrauding the U.S. Constitution through your actions, or perhaps we should say, inactions.

And suppose we find ourselves unprepared for a devastating climatic event this year that causes death and destruction. In that case, all four should be found guilty of manslaughter due to negligence and cowardice.

Let me leave you with several thoughts and questions: What are they afraid of? Why do they now shy away from defending what they have supposedly fought for over the past decades?

Why? What are they afraid of?
