Hope reborn (Video)

From the New York Times:

Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Kamala Harris, two Democrats from opposite coasts and different generations, made their first public appearance as running mates on the Democratic ticket on Wednesday afternoon.

“I have no doubt that I picked the right person to join me as the next vice president of the United States of America,” Mr. Biden said.

The appearance, held at Alexis I. duPont High School in Wilmington, Del., offered the first indication of how Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris, formerly political rivals who sparred on debate stages, might fuse their messages together as they campaign to unseat President Trump in the White House this fall.

As they stood publicly as a political team, Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris both cast themselves as the right pair to guide the nation through both the coronavirus pandemic and nationwide protests over racial inequality and police brutality.

“This is a moment of real consequence for America,” Ms. Harris said. “Everything we care about, our economy, our health, our children, the kind of country we live in, it’s all on the line.”

In her remarks, Ms. Harris sought to cast the blame for both the death toll — more than 165,000 Americans have died of the virus — and the economic upheaval on Mr. Trump.

The event also marked a significant first, with Ms. Harris taking to the stage as the first Black woman and the first person of Indian descent to be nominated for national office by a major political party.
