Once con men, always con men.
David Rivera and Donald Trump are not having a good week.
Rivera, the former member of Congress from South Florida, was arrested in Atlanta on federal charges that include failing to register as a foreign agent. According to NPR, “the newly unsealed criminal indictment accuses Rivera of using his ties to members of Congress and former President Donald Trump’s White House in attempts to broker U.S. deals with the regime of Nicolás Maduro. Accused along with Rivera is Esther Nuhfer of Miami-Dade County, a political consultant and lobbyist with longstanding ties to Rivera.”
It’s an old story — at least for so many of us who have known of Rivera’s shenanigans for too many years. Old, too, because there’s a woman involved who assuredly will end up in jail or with her life in tatters. She will not be the first he’s taken to the bottom with him.
The thing is, he gets off, they don’t.
As for the former president, the “Trump Organization, the family real estate business that made Donald J. Trump a billionaire and propelled him from reality television to the White House, was convicted on Tuesday [Dec. 6] of tax fraud and other crimes,” reported The New York Times.
Two con men in trouble, how sweet that sounds…
Of course, Trump will soon be tweeting or doing whatever he does that gets the malcontents and the other idiots to listen to him. To them, he will point out that he’s not the one found guilty, it was two of his companies. He will tell us that he had no knowledge that this was going on. He will blame the deep state and the commie-loving Democrats who stole the 2020 election and who insist on bringing him down. And like Don Corleone in The Godfather who created layers of people to take the fall for him, he’ll point to them as the culprits.
In Trump World, Trump is never wrong… And the reason I just called some of his followers idiots, they keep believing him. In spite of the fact that in the Trump Organization (in the movies they call them families), there is not a thing that happens, or a penny spent, that Trump is not aware of. But… almost 80 million of you voted for this con man.
As for con men, David Rivera has always played the flim flam man part to perfection. When he went after $50 million of Venezuela’s money he stepped onto a higher court of play, and it’s bitten him in the ass. “About time” was my reaction when I heard of the indictment.
But Rivera, like Trump, will blame others, deflect criticism and point fingers at communists and other political enemies in Miami he will claim have had it out for him for a long time. And I will again ask myself: How did this guy ever get elected? Are some of the voters out there that stupid?
Someone once said that “You cannot con an honest man.” But based on these two, I wonder how many honest men are left? Or is it that it’s only women left who are honest?
Whatever the answer to the questions above, Trump and Rivera, along with a number of friends and family members, deserve to spend some time counting cockroaches in jail.
