Hillary may not be trustworthy, but a Trump presidency should scare you
Let’s agree that it’s difficult to trust Hillary Clinton. And it’s not easy to like her. But I find it even scarier to come to terms with the thoughts and ideas being spewed – on a daily basis – by Donald Trump.
Don’t fool yourself. He believes much of what he says – simply because he says it. He’s an ego driven man whose motto may be: “If I say something, I can make it happen.”
The good news? The rest of the country seems to be catching on to the Donald and his used-car salesman’s pitch. And if this is true, the November election may turn into a landslide victory for Hillary. The polls, as you will see at the bottom of this column, are trending in that direction.
And I agree. A Hillary victory is not what I foresaw as a step forward. For one reason. With Hillary, we can expect more of the same.
Yet, a future led by a Trump should scare the willies out of all of us.
One last point to make, and it is the trump card (no pun intended) that will assure my vote for Hillary Clinton: The judiciary.
The next president of the United States will appoint many federal judges in the year’s to come. And beginning next year, Mrs. or Mr. President will have to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court. A seat so important that it may decide the gains achieved on our march towards free universal health care; the many rights of women won over the past almost 100 years since the ladies were given the right to vote; rights achieved by members of the LBGT community who took huge strides forward under President Obama; and so many other progressive achievements that are hard to enumerate all in one column.
Under a Trump presidency, many of these accomplishments would take a step back. And not because Trump is for or against them, I believe. He simply doesn’t care. Trump’s main and only interest is Trump, and winning – for Trump. So if he can negotiate to further HIS agenda, there but by the grace of God may go… the right of a woman to have an abortion, for example.
Remember, the Donald knows his daughter, wife or girlfriend can always have an abortion performed somewhere else where it’s legal. He’ll put her on a private aircraft and fly her there. And he’ll be the first to tell you that some of his best friends are gay, or that they don’t believe in Obamacare, or whatever else may come out of this shyster’s mouth. Lies, in other words, have never been a problem with Trump, and they’ve never stopped him from doing what’s best for HIM.
THE GOOD NEWS
“The presidential race may have reached a turning point, as a new group of polls shows Hillary Clinton clobbering Donald Trump nationally and in swing states,” says an article written by Andrew Prokop for Vox.
Here are just a few examples:
- A national Fox News poll has Clinton beating Trump by 10 percentage points, 49 to 39.
- Even worse (for Trump) is a poll released Thursday by McClatchy-Marist that has Hillary ahead by a massive 15 points, 48 to 33. Described by Vox as “real landslide territory.”
- Vox reports that “in Pennsylvania, a state most observers believe is a must win for Trump … Franklin & Marshall has a new poll showing [Trump] trailing Clinton by 11 points – 49 percent to 38 percent.”
- Then there’s Florida: a must-win state for Trump. A Suffolk poll found Clinton ahead of Trump by six percentage points.
Interestingly, as reported by McClatchy, their “new survey showed Clinton has cut sharply into the Republican nominee’s advantages in every ethnic and racial group.” It underscores the fact that Clinton has made strong gains in the past month with two constituencies crucial to a Republican victory – whites and men.
The result of these polls may be a reaction of voters to the Democratic National Convention highlighted by hope and diversity, and a positive outlook, versus the Republican’s Convention of Fear. Then again, the polls could also be telling us that the American public is beginning to wake up as the election nears. And a majority, an ever growing one at that, has heard enough from the huckster and has decided to vote for Hillary. Even, as some will tell you, if they have to squeeze and cover their nose to do it.
