David Rivera delays state budget talks for… cash

I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it again, David Rivera doesn’t give a good goddamn about the people he’s supposed to represent as an elected official. He’s shown it with his obscene laws that have been removed from the books by the Florida Supreme Court targeting persons doing business (legally) that deals with travel to Cuba. For a number of years Rivera has gone after these folks — all for the sake of a little publicity in a district which seems to turn out voters who love to be fooled by David. The sad part of this whole ordeal is the fact that Rivera uses our tax dollars for his purposes. And when the state loses in court, as has been the case twice already, we still get to pay for David Rivera’s follies…

And now that he’s running for congress, here’s what The Miami Herald’s Marc Caputo has to say in the Naked Politics blog: “Miami Republican Rep. David Rivera said this morning that the House and Senate would wrap up budget talks this evening at a special 11 pm meeting. Why so late? At first, it would seem that the hyper-technical issues in the budget are to blame.

“But there might be another reason: Cash.

“Rivera, running for Congress, had a fundraiser scheduled in Washington tonight from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Capitol Hill Club, according to a website that may have given me a computer virus.”

Florida like the rest of the nation is in the midst of a terrible recession as we know. And dollars are hard to find for things needed (like education) in our state. But David has priorities… and the people of Florida did not make that list.
