A DiSaster called Ron DeSantis and other exceptional goings-on (+Español)
Is this a great country, or what?
As the US economy wallows in an inflationary period that does not seem to want to relent as the not so lucky (and that’s like 90 percent of the country) are relegated to counting pennies; and as climate change wreaks havoc, not only here, but in every corner of this pocked earth; as a war is being fought in Ukraine, started by a tyrant, but whose flames keep being stoked by the US interested in more war instead of seeking peace; as school shootings, mass shootings, become so normal in the USA that when they occur (even as 9-year-old children are being gunned down) we shrug them off as the price of doing business; as politicians full of false promises get elected, and then represent only those who can afford them…
Heard enough?
I ask because as the world turns and burns, our focus is on a mafia-style president arrested for grabbing pussies and paying them off not to admit the truth — of course with illegal wads of cash. And here in Florida our Legislature, guided by a fascist governor who seems to want to succeed the former Vito Corleone president, our Tallahassee ‘leaders’ just passed a law allowing residents to carry a gun without a permit in Florida. That’s right, a state that has experienced some of the worst and most recent mass shootings in the country is now allowing anyone and everyone to carry weapons (Oh! but they must be concealed, in other words, hidden) without a license, background check, and with no training in how to use them…
The wild, wild west has made a comeback, but now in the southern peninsula known as the Sunshine State.
And speaking of sunshine, Florida has a 1967 law dubbed the Sunshine Law that requires public disclosure of government agency meetings and records. But disclosure bothers Florida Governor Ron DiSaster, who may be smarter than the former pussy-grabbing president but not much better, and whose decided to run ‘his’ state the way he sees fit — laws be damned.
As for our gay and Black citizens — and immigrants, especially the undocumented —, the likes of the Trumps and DiSasters of this country want to recreate a time when Blacks and others not considered American or American enough are considered inferior, or not bible-thumping Christians and therefore under the fascist boot of lily-white masters who have created the myth of an American exceptionalism that does not exist.
Then there are women and their right to choose and control their own bodies. But the bible says, “Thou shall not…” Heck, I’m still looking for a bible authored by a woman. As for the “thou shall nots,” we’re told not to kill unborn children, but as for living children in Iraq, Vietnam, Ukraine, all over Africa and the Middle East, and elsewhere, well, they’re not exceptional like our unborn. And once born, the least among us are forgotten and subjected to a life where those in power see them as less than human, minimum wage workers that in the future will help the one-percenters become mega wealthy, that’s if they’re not first thrown into jails and prisons run by those same one-percenters who not only have created a military industrial complex, but a prison industrial one too.
Are there solutions? I’m running out of them, honestly. And the more I look at my home state of Florida, where a tyrant like Ron DiSaster seems so popular, I start to look for an exit strategy… but where to go?

Pregunto porque mientras el mundo gira y arde, nuestro enfoque está en un presidente al estilo de la mafia, arrestado por agarrar coños y pagarles para que no admitan la verdad, por supuesto con fajos ilegales de dinero en efectivo. Y aquí en la Florida nuestra Legislatura, guiada por un gobernador fascista que parece querer suceder al expresidente al estilo Vito Corleone, nuestros ‘líderes’ de Tallahassee acaban de aprobar una ley que permite a los residentes portar un arma sin permiso. Así es, un estado que ha experimentado algunos de los peores y más recientes tiroteos masivos ocurridos en el país ahora permite que cualquier persona porte armas (¡Oh! pero deben estar ocultas, en otras palabras, escondidas) sin licencia, verificación de antecedentes, y sin entrenamiento en cómo usarlas…
El salvaje oeste ha regresado, pero ahora en la península del sur conocida como el Estado del Sol.
Y hablando de sol, Florida tiene una ley de 1967 denominada Ley Sunshine (Ley del Sol) que exige la divulgación pública de las reuniones y registros de las agencias gubernamentales. Pero la divulgación molesta al gobernador de Florida, Ron DeSastre, quien puede ser más inteligente que el expresidente agarrador de coños, pero no mucho mejor, y quien decidió dirigir ‘su’ estado de la manera que mejor le parezca: al diablo con las leyes.
En cuanto a nuestros ciudadanos gays, negros e inmigrantes, especialmente los indocumentados, gente como los Trumps y los DeSastres de este país quieren recrear una época en la que los negros y otras personas que no se consideran estadounidenses o lo suficientemente estadounidenses son vistos como inferiores, o que no viven de acuerdo con la Biblia Cristiana y por lo tanto sufren bajo la bota fascista de maestros lirios-blancos que han creado el mito de un excepcionalismo americano que no existe.
Luego están las mujeres y su derecho a elegir y controlar sus propios cuerpos. Pero la biblia dice: “No harás…” Diablos, todavía estoy buscando una biblia escrita por una mujer. En cuanto a los “no debes”, se nos dice que no matemos a los niños no nacidos, pero en cuanto a los niños vivos en Irak, Vietnam, Ucrania, en toda África y el Medio Oriente, y en otros lugares, bueno, no son excepcionales como nuestros no nacidos. Y una vez nacidos, los más pequeños entre nosotros son olvidados y sometidos a una vida en la que los que están en el poder los ven como menos que humanos, trabajadores de salario mínimo que en el futuro ayudarán a los ricos a volverse megas ricos, eso si no son primero arrojados a cárceles y prisiones dirigidas por esos mismos ricos que no sólo han creado un complejo industrial militar, sino también una industria carcelaria.
¿Hay soluciones? Me estoy quedando sin ellas, la verdad. Y cuanto más miro al estado Florida donde vivo, un lugar donde un tirano como Ron DeSastre parece tan popular, empiezo a buscar una estrategia de salida… pero ¿adónde ir?
