“The life of the bus is a word exchanged, a package they help us to carry, it is listening to conversations that join us in perplexities, because we lack the personal history of the passenger to make a suitable composition of place. And relentlessly, a wave of humanity continues to flow in and out, up and down; everything becomes glances, silent interrogations, dramas one wants to decipher and that, possibly, are just laughable comedies. All this in motion, as if within the earth’s gravitation pull there fits another gravity, but with the difference that the latter is felt. At the same time one experiences the distressful feeling that one’s ‘special time’ will do us no good.”

Virgilio Piñera: “The candy” (a story), 1962. (Fragment)
