The Sun-Sentinel gets it right: Rubio ripping us off, should resign

Senator Marco Rubio should resign and stop ripping us off, screamed a Sun-Sentinel editorial on Tuesday.

Thank God somebody’s noticed!

For months now Mr. Rubio has complained that he does not like his job. Poor thing. As a result, and the record proves it, he shows up for work as little as humanly possible. In fact, he has missed more votes – important votes – than any U.S. senator now serving. Fifty-nine (59) in the last year alone, according to Politico. Votes, may I add, that are important; many that affect our daily lives.

Still, Sen. Rubio flatly told CNN: “I’m not missing votes because I’m on vacation. I’m running for president so that votes they take in the Senate are actually meaningful again.” Oh! what a show of humility Senator Rubio. Are you trying to tell us that if YOU are not there, then the votes are not important?

As stated in the editorial:

“If you hate your job, senator, follow the honorable lead of House Speaker John Boehner and resign it.

“Let us elect someone who wants to be there and earn an honest dollar for an honest day’s work. Don’t leave us without one of our two representatives in the Senate for the next 15 months.

“You are paid $174,000 per year to represent us, to fight for us, to solve our problems. Plus you take a $10,000 federal subsidy – declined by some in the Senate – to participate in one of the Obamacare health plans, though you are a big critic of Obamacare.

“You are ripping us off, senator.”

All true.

Consider this. You have a job you hate – many do. Still, you labor and do your best, and get paid for it. Now imagine that same job. And you decide (like Marco Rubio has done) that you will continue picking up your paycheck at the end of the month, but you’re not going to show up much, and when you do, you won’t do much work, if any at all. All you want is to make sure that your money is ready at the end of each month. Try pulling a move like Marco’s in your real life and see what happens to you: Kick in the ass out the door you go.

But there’s more in this imaginary game (for us), but true for Marco Rubio. While you’re getting paid for not working, you are out daily – during working hours – looking for another job, one you say you want and are convinced will make you happy…

I’ve always said Marco Rubio was a phoney! As a Floridian, I am not glad to see that he is proving me right.

Marco has demonstrated he has little respect for everything he supposedly represents, and even less for the position he wants to attain – the most powerful political position on earth. And by his actions, and his words, he demonstrates disdain for voting – and therefore the voters who’ve elected him.

As the Sun Sentinel editorial states: “It is unpersuasive – and incredible, really – that you [Marco Rubio] say your vote doesn’t matter. ‘Voting is not the most important part of the job,’ you [Marco Rubio] you told CNN.”

And as for Marco wanting to be our next president, think about this: “It is unconscionable that when it comes to intelligence matters, including briefings on the Iran nuclear deal, you [Marco Rubio] said, ‘we have a staffer that’s assigned to intelligence who gets constant briefings.’”

“By choosing to stay in the Senate and get the publicity, perks and pay that go with the position – without doing the work – you are taking advantage of us,” adds the editorial. “Either do your job, Sen. Rubio, or resign it,” it urges him to do.
