Menendez and Rubio acting like brats while holding up Jacobson nomination

Two U.S. senators, a Democrat and a Republican, are holding up the nomination of our next ambassador to Mexico, one of this country’s most important diplomatic jobs. The nominee being blackballed is Roberta Jacobson. The two senators doing the dirty work are Marco Rubio and Bob Menendez, both sulking because of Jacobson’s great success with the recent talks that resulted in the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with Cuba.

The fact is that the senators remind of two spoiled kids who refuse to share their bat and ball because they landed on a team they did not want to play with. And I don’t quite understand how the confirmation procedure works, but this is ridiculous. Two holding up what most in a body of 100 would vote for in a heartbeat?

As reported in a New York Times editorial: “Six former American ambassadors who served under Democratic and Republican presidents recently sent the Senate Foreign Relations Committee a letter urging that Ms. Jacobson be confirmed promptly, saying her ‘qualifications, experience, and integrity are beyond reproach.’”

But Menendez and Rubio again demonstrate that they don’t care who loses (including those they serve – the country and its people) as long as they can call themselves the winners in this silly, childish game.

Jacobson was nominated in June and these two – one running for president and the other running from the law – are holding up the naming of one of our most important ambassadors.
