Werewolves
White, black, Haitian, Cuban, Dominicans, Venezuelans, Colombians, Mexicans. There are more. The fact is that one can’t deny Miami’s diversity.
The food, the sounds, the colors and languages spoken in the many neighborhoods are just a hint of the beauty Miami has to offer. But our politics seem to turn us to werewolves during a full moon… and the politicians jump on the opportunity.
Whatever the reason, Progreso Weekly would like to take the opportunity to recognize and congratulate the FIRST-ever Haitian American female mayor of the city of North Miami. Voters elected Lucie Tondreau with 55.7 percent of their votes.
The white and black situation played a major role during the election in this Miami-Dade municipality. The Miami Herald reported that there were encounters at the polls were white citizens were urging voters to vote white.
And a Haitian Tondreau supporter countered on radio with “If they’re saying, ‘White people all the way,’ where are the Haitians?” Adding, "Haitians all day long. … The white people won’t help you."
We’re holding Ms. Tondreau to words spoken after her well-earned victory. She said: “I love my community. … Once the election is over, it’s time for the city to be united. We need one city for all residents."
