We know he’s a racist. So focus on the issues.

“Why don’t you go back to where you came from…”

I’ve heard those words before.Spewed by bigoted idiots who, we are beginning to understand now, are way too many in this country. Their leader, in 2019, is a cretin who sits in the Oval Office in the White House.

The latest outrage from this monster we call our president comes via several of his tweets. He recently wrote:

“So interesting to see ‘progressive’ Democrat congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful nation on earth, how our government is to be run.

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.

“These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

I think that he must look in the mirror and talk to himself, criticize himself for who he is and what he has helped to create, and then attack and blame others — persons he might hate, especially persons of color and women — for his own sins. But this delusional man would never admit to wrongdoing, even when he knows it is wrong, and so he looks to stain those he hates, destroy them if he can, and in the process divide a country he knows he needs to break into pieces in order to keep his seat in the White House.

Sounds sick, doesn’t it? But it is true. And it IS the current state of American politics and its society in general. Because if there is one truth to what Donald Trump stated when he ran for president, it was: “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”

His statement has proven to be true. There’s a plurality of American voters who will vote for Trump all over again — no matter what he says or does. His favorability ratings have always been low, but they’ve never wavered from the 32 to 42 percent range. These are the people that will back him even if he shoots someone in the middle of 5th Avenue. A base of voters that in American presidential politics, where Electoral College states count more than the actual vote count of the American people, can win you an election without the candidate having to persuade a majority to vote for him or her.

And they call this American democracy.

The presidential tweet I mention was directed at a group of four congresswomen of color. Three were born and raised in the U.S. while the fourth moved to the U.S. as a child. They are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley, and Ilhan Omar, who came to the U.S. as a refugee at the age of 12.

There is no doubt that Trump is a racist. And yet America seems to be shrugging at the fact. As for Republican lawmakers, few have responded to Mr. Trump’s comments.

The cretin’s tweet is simply flaming the fires that got him elected. And yes, if you’re still wondering, there are that many racists in this country. And Donald’s specialty is inciting their hatred — to reach higher highs.

As for what to do. Washington Post columnist Alexandra Petri’s advice is good for starters: “I would denounce his comments, but aren’t you the ones always saying his tweets are a scheme to distract you from the the real issues?”

In other words, the man’s evil, but he’s not stupid. Don’t allow him to play us, again. Focus on the issues.
