Miguel Diaz-Canel will not be a messiah of the extreme left or right because Cuba’s relations with the world are different. Many Cubans observe from a distance, from exile, and our distances can become the best contribution to the modernization of Cuba. A new head of state does not have to dismantle the state to prove things that often belong to the world of words and concepts, with no proven relationship to reality. A new head of state simply has to fight against poverty, exclusion, and against the loss of sovereignty.
