Rahm Emanuel: Gone after November?
An article in Sunday’s London Telegraph reported that Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is expected to quit the White House after the midterm elections in November.
“I would bet he will go after the midterms … Nobody thinks it’s working but they can’t get rid of him – that would look awful. He needs the right sort of job to go to but the consensus is he’ll go,” reported the British newspaper citing an unnamed source.
It is well known in Washington that arguments have developed between the pragmatic Emanuel and the idealistic inner circle who followed Obama to the White House.
What will he do? The rumor mill is also reporting that Emanuel wants to be mayor of Chicago. For that to happen, I suppose Richard Daley must decide not to seek reelection in 2011. At this point, that doesn’t look likely.
Emanuel moved his family to Washington, D.C. from Chicago to take on the high profile job in the White House. A dedicated family man, there are some who also believe part of Emanuel’s decision is based on time lost with his family, especially his kids.
The coming months should tell.
