New poll shows GOP doesn’t stand a chance against Hillary
A new poll is out, and it doesn’t look good for the GOP. A recently released Washington Post/ABC News poll shows Hillary Clinton, the potential Democratic nominee, wiping the floor with top potential GOP candidates, such as Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush.
The survey found that 53-56 percent of respondents supported Clinton over five GOP frontrunners.
Are there variables affecting Clinton’s popularity? How could a candidate who hasn’t formally announced her nomination garner such enthusiasm? Well, further analysis of the data from Langley Research Associates found that she is much stronger in her base with nine out of 10 Democrats backing her. The GOP presents a much more fragmented group of potential nominees.
Think about it — are conservatives who back Rand Paul going to back Romney? What about Huckabee? He has Jesus on his side, but what about the rest of the Republican base?
Now let’s talk about gender. When it comes to women, the GOP should hide in a corner with their failed policies on reproductive rights and refusal to support equal pay for equal work. Even when Obama got re-elected in 2012, vaginas across the nation had a collective sigh of relief. Women pick Hillary over GOP rivals by 20-24 point margins. Furthermore, close to a quarter of registered voters said the potential to elect the first female POTUS made them more likely to support Clinton.
This news comes at a critical time as the GOP scrambles to find a viable candidate. Former Governor Jeb Bush seemed to be the most plausible for the base, given his moderate stances; however, if this poll is indicative of what’s to come, he better start putting a serious strategy in place. Clinton leads Bush by a 13 point margin. Then again, there’s always Mitt Romney. He’s great at running, right? As Romney considers a “third time’s a charm” run for President, he’ll have to fight tooth and nail to get his own base to support him. As a recent article in the Washington Post notes, members of the GOP are starting to think all he cares about is running for the sake of his own ego. Oh yeah—and Clinton already holds a 15 point margin over him.
Get your popcorn out, because this is going to be a long political showdown with many more polls to come.
