Until the last April the 30th, 309 728 people were self-sustained workers and, according to statistics of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, 221 839 of them had been recently approved since October 2010.
Of the latter, 49 349 correspond to food manufacture and sale, namely a 22 %. While the “hired worker”, with 38 704, is also one of the most frequent with a tendency to grow as new regulations are meant to extend more flexible contracts to the field of private professional activity.
Transport services, with13 982 authorizations, and manufacturers-sellers of domestic items, 10 187, are also among the most frequent.
Of the people with newly or yet to be granted permits, 68 % did not previously have a work link, while those in retirement or working for the state represent each a 16 %.
In order to get affiliated to the Special Social Welfare Regime, 198 511 individuals asked to be registered, including those private workers who were operating before the extension process.
Havana is still the province with a greater amount of newly granted authorizations (66 905), followed by Matanzas (17 943), Villa Clara (15 313), Camagüey (15 926) and Santiago de Cuba (14 354).
