Miami recall election set for March 15
May you be haunted, says Commissioner Seijas
The Miami-Dade County commission today set March 15, 2011, as the date for the recall elections for Mayor Carlos Alvarez and District 13 Commissioner Natacha Seijas. After hours-long debate and back and forth on whether to separate the elections – something requested by Commissioner Seijas – the commission decided on a same date for both recall elections.
Commissioner Seijas is worried, and rightfully so, that the feeling is so strong against Mayor Alvarez that it will affect her recall effort. Cost of elections was the final say on holding both elections on the same day. The final tally was 10-3 in favor of a same day election.
Seijas, demonstrating her usual bad taste, had the last word when the voting was over. With a smirk on her face, she addressed her colleagues and thanked those who had voted on her behalf and told the others that she wished “their vote would come back to haunt them.”
