Miami-Dade County Manager George Burgess resigns
Since 2003 his salary has jumped 77% in one of the poorest and ruined counties in the entire nation. And in spite of the fact that he resigned his post as county manager, Burgess has the right to receive a pay and benefits package, according to his contract.
There are only three reasons to deny him the benefits he will receive: for a criminal violation (which he has yet to be accused of); an immoral act (taking all of this money and benefits while the county and its taxpayers suffer the effects of the economy); or an act of conduct unbecoming (when he signed a contract knowing the miserable situation Miami-Dade finds itself in).
The Burgess benefits package includes:
- $326,340 Severance of one year of base salary.
- $22,000 Deferred compensation.
- Medical and Dental Coverage for him and his family until he turns 65. Under ‘Program for Select Employees.’
- $79,892 Unused sick time.
- $78,777 Accumulated vacation time.
- $3,000 A month for expense allowance.
- $600 A month for expenses – car allowance.
- $10,000 Annual executive benefits.
- $8,000 One time payment to cover the premiums on a Life Insurance and Disability Policy.
