Let’s end the Cuban embargo
While the U.S. and Cuba still disagree on many things – the role of the private sector in an economy, how to hold free elections, and the importance of human rights considerations in foreign policy – it’s past time for those concerns to stifle any productive relationship at all.
It’s time to end the embargo. It’s time to allow American citizens to travel to Cuba. Click here to join me in calling for an end to the embargo and start a new era in our relationship with Cuba.
The status quo – of Cold War-era policies and old exhausted arguments on both sides – is unsustainable. We need to move beyond rigid policies that prevent both countries from benefitting from normalized relations.
Moving past the 53 years of embargo won’t be easy, and it won’t be quick. But it’s vital that we start down a new path of re-engagement and collaboration, rather than remaining stuck in the old pattern of long-term stalemate and overblown rhetoric.
