The legacy of sexual revolution and how it affects the society
Has the perception of sex changed over the years? How does it affect society? What is the role of media in setting sexual trends? In order to estimate the presence of sex in public lifeMeetville.com carried out a series of polls on sex-related topics among 103,468 people.
Modern media plays on our sexual urges and desires. However, the question which is often raised is whether this media exposure stimulates immoral behavior or not, and what is generally recognized as acceptable by the society.
Meetville.com found out that 72% consider themselves to be sexually open-minded. That is made clear by the polls, conducted earlier, which reveal that seven out of ten believe porn is Ok in marriage, as well as two out of three do not consider having sex at work rude. The polls also highlighted growing liberal attitudes to sex in terms of openness to group and oral sex. In addition to that, 58% majority (38% – male, 20% – female) admit there are no taboos in sex for them. And according to a related poll, 76% of participants enhance their satisfaction with sex toys.
Sarah Fletcher, psychosexual therapist, observes: “Oral and anal sex are much more common than when I started as a therapist 18 years ago. There’s more S&M too. I think it’s a response to online porn, Fifty Shades of Grey, the fact that sex is talked about more than ever. Yet for all our “openness”, many problems are still down to lack of communication. Couples often don’t talk truthfully about sex to one another. They’re so worried about how they “should” be, they’re too frightened to be truly themselves.”
Together with the boom of unconventional sexual intercourse, seeking treatment for sex problems is becoming more socially acceptable today both among men and women. Anotherpoll results indicate that 48% of men support sex therapy.Unlike women, men have to perform. When men can’t or won’t talk about an issue with their partners, they might start avoiding sex all together.Sex therapist Vanessa Marin is sure: “Adjusting your sexual mindset can lead not only to better sex now, but can ensure that your sex life continues to be exhilarating for decades to come.”
Alex Cusper, Meetville service analyst, concludes that controversy over the meaning of the sexual revolution has led to contentious debate over the vast growth of the commercial sex world. Increasing openness to sex has eliminated some tension, but it also gave rise to question of morality, specifically among the young. The sex industry accounts for expenditures of billions of dollars every year. And those in opposition target it as a primary locus of social decay and female oppression.
