Jon Stewart hammers Republicans for their embarrassing infatuation with Netanyahu (Video)

Much of the world’s eyes were focused on Capitol Hill yesterday (March 3) when an unprecedented display of disrespect came to fruition as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave his speech to Congress. It was a speech that was set up by Speaker of the House John Boehner, behind the president’s back.
Well, after a whole lot of hoopla, the speech was essentially what most people thought it would be; a direct slap in the face of the Obama administration and an attempt to undermine the president’s efforts to use diplomacy to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The fact is, Netanyahu is nothing more than a warhawk conservative. He loves conflict and proving how big his manhood is by flexing his military power. Although if it weren’t for the U.S. backing Israel, that nation wouldn’t exist.
Israel always reminds me of that person who will often talk a lot of trash to various strangers because they’ve surrounded themselves with much larger, and more threatening friends who’ll stick up for them if anyone ever really calls them out on their crap. That’s not to say I’m against Israel, I’m just not the biggest fan of Netanyahu. Well, Jon Stewart had a few choice words for the Israeli Prime Minister and the ridiculous Republican response to his speech, especially as it pertains to the hypocrisy of the Republican party. He even asked the same question I’ve been asking for weeks. Could you imagine if, when George W. Bush was president, Democrats bypassed the president to invite a foreign leader to speak in front of Congress? “They would’ve gone f*cking bananas,” Stewart stated. “Republicans would have demanded the inviters be arrested for sedition and treason. For God’s sakes, just for France not joining our coalition, Republicans officially had the word ‘French’ removed from Capitol Building fries.” Which is exactly what I’ve argued.
When Boehner, and the GOP for that matter, specifically tries to undermine a sitting president’s foreign policy, how is that not grounds for being charged with treason? Hell, conservatives lost their minds when the Dixie Chicks insulted Bush, could you imagine if Democrats publicly tried to embarrass him in such a manner? Stewart then went on to point out Netanyahu’s insistence that Iran is about “one year” away from developing a nuclear weapon, mocking the fact that almost 20 years ago the very same Netanyahu spoke in front of Congress and warned that Iran (and Iraq at the time) were on the brink of obtaining nuclear weapons. He also aired comments the prime minister made back in 2002 proclaiming that if Saddam were removed from power, democracy and peace might spread throughout the region – which, as we know, is the exact opposite of what’s actually happened.
He also poked fun at the embarrassing levels of infatuation Republicans heaped upon Netanyahu. The rousing ovation he received was so overboard that it was actually comical to watch. It was almost as if they all got together and planned this spectacle, which really wouldn’t surprise me if that were true. “Whether or not Netanyahu achieved his goals of sabotaging a deal with Iran or mistakenly opened up a rift in U.S.-Israeli relations, one thing is certain,” Stewart quipped. “The in-chamber response to this speech was by far the longest blowjob a Jewish man has ever received.” And I’m not sure if any statement sums up this entire pathetic situation better than that.
