December has arrived! (+Español)

Nothing is more helpful than one year that follows another. Congratulations and good omens will begin shortly when we start saying goodbye to 2022, which could already be classified as one of the most difficult years in recent times — and there are plenty of reasons for this. And it might turn out to be the most critical during Cuba’s revolutionary years.

The last two elections, or those calls for the citizen to use a ballot box and vote in favor of one thing or the other, have given a clear sign of discontent or apathy that the political and economic authorities of the country should not ignore. 

Too many problems and difficulties have combined to create a malaise with signs of becoming politicized. We all know it, and the problems cannot be hidden like a mythical ostrich burying its head. The causes are internal and external and have no expiration date. And they need not be mentioned here because they are known, ad nauseam.

You have to go out into the street, walk it, talk with everyone, and even with the lazy people who flourish on every corner, in addition to those old peanut vendors who collect the dozens of questions that people ask. Among them, one not missing: Where is the leader’s order to change everything that must be changed?

Slogans, as elaborate and well thought out as can possibly be, will not help improve the situation. Results are what will determine where we are going in this coming 2023.

¡Comenzó diciembre!

Nada más socorrido que un año tras otro. En breve, comenzarán las felicitaciones y buenos augurios despidiendo el 2022, que ya pudiera clasificar como uno de los años más difíciles de los últimos tiempos porque motivos sobran. Y cuidado no sea el más crítico en la historia revolucionaria.

Las dos últimas elecciones o esas llamadas a que el ciudadano haga uso de una urna y vote a favor de una cosa o de la otra han dado una clara señal de inconformidad o apatía que no debe pasar por alto para las autoridades políticas y económicas del país.

Demasiados problemas y dificultades unidos para crear un malestar con signos de politizarse. Todos lo sabemos y no se pueden enmascarar a la modalidad del avestruz. Causas internas y externas sin fecha de caducidad estas últimas que no son necesarias mencionar porque se conocen hasta el cansancio.

Hay que salir a la calle, caminarla, conversar con todos y hasta con los vagos que florecen en cada esquina, además de esos ancianos vendedores de cucuruchos de maní, para recopilar decenas de preguntas que se hace la gente. Entre ellas, una que no falta: ¿En qué gaveta estará guardada esa sentencia del líder en cambiar todo lo que debe ser cambiado?

Una consigna, por pensada y elaborada, no podrá mejorar la situación porque son los resultados quienes dirán la última palabra de hacia dónde vamos en este venidero 2023.
