Cuba’s president confirms that the island is not alone
Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez stressed that this support was expressed not only through solidarity but also through concrete measures.
Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, president of the Republic of Cuba, provided detailed information on the governments, personalities, institutions, and international organizations that have offered their solidarity and support to the local authorities in response to the new White House offensive, emphasizing that “Cuba is not alone.”
He stressed that this support was expressed not only through solidarity but also through concrete measures, and reiterated that behind these declarations were practical elements that could not be made public due to imperialist harassment.
Given the critical situation the island is facing, the president held a three-hour press conference attended by numerous local media outlets and two international outlets, Russia Today and Xinhua, during which he reviewed the current situation and the immediate and future prospects for addressing it.
US accusations were dismantled one by one during the press conference, after he clarified, once again, Cuba’s willingness to engage in dialogue with Washington without any room for questioning its sovereignty or interfering in its internal affairs.
The press conference was primarily aimed at an international audience, but it also included new information for domestic consumption, which leaders and officials will further elaborate on in the coming days. This information is based on an updated version, with relevant modifications, of the measures implemented by Fidel Castro during the so-called Special Period (early 1990s), including the well-known but never implemented Zero Option**, which called for a complete halt to fuel imports into the country.
The president reported that the Council of Ministers had met that Thursday morning to examine and implement a wide range of measures across different sectors, which will be announced in the coming days, with the lack of oil as the central focus.
In light of the current dangers and threats, he emphasized the importance of defense preparedness, with relevant preparations occurring every Saturday throughout the island, in accordance with the philosophy of “the war of the entire people.”
In another part of his address, he said he was aware of terrorist plots being hatched in the United States and that these would be revealed in due course.
“There is much to defend,” he emphasized.
