Climate change crash landing? Visit the Green Fest
On Sunday, the 24th at 2pm the Green Festival will be hosting a panel on “The Coalition Between Governments of the Global South and Environmentalists,” included on the panel is Venezuela’s chief climate negotiator, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change Claudia Salerno, along with U.N. Ambassador to Bolivia, Pablo Solón.
In the struggle to stop climate change, a powerful coalition between progressive governments in the Global South and environmental organizations has developed to fight the Copenhagen Accord, which some call a “back-door” negotiation that would allow for a disastrous 2-4 degree rise in temperatures. This panel will provide a unique insight into the upcoming negotiations and outline the essentials of alternative proposals.
I have the opportunity to have an exclusive video blog interview with Pablo Solon and will be sharing his thoughts with Progreso Weekly readers that evening. I will be also blogging directly from the Green Festival all weekend.
Regarding the tickets are limited, but first come first serve basis. Please find information on reserving your ticket below, and we look forward to seeing you there at this very special event. For tickets please RSVP to:ogoumbri@venezuela-us.org

Claudia Salerno Caldera is the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Before her appointment to this post by President Hugo Chavez earlier this year, she led the International Cooperation Office at the Ministry of People’s Power for the Environment. As Venezuela’s chief climate negotiator, she is most well-known for her intervention in the Copenhagen climate summit (COP 16) where she protested the imposition of the “Copenhagen Accord” by a small group of developed countries, after it became clear that they would only have a few minutes to vote on the “accord” that had been decided upon behind closed doors in the middle of the night without input from the majority of countries, or inclusion of the previous work done by the climate working groups at the UN. She also serves as the director of International Institutions at the Multilateral and Integration Affairs Office in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela. She is a long time environmentalist and holds a Ph.D. in international environmental law.
Pablo Solón wrote in the Huffington Post, “Climate headed for a crash landing“.
Solón is representative of the Plurinational State of Bolivia the United Nations. He is a sociologist and economist, was active in Bolivia’s social movements before entering government, and is an expert on the issues of trade, integration, natural resources and water.
