Bud Chiles to announce run for governor as independent

The so far boring race for Florida governor may be getting more interesting – soon. It is expected that Lawton “Bud” Chiles III, the son of the late Florida senator and then governor, Lawton Chiles, will announce an independent candidacy for the state’s top spot.

According to newspaper reports Chiles would announce today or at the latest tomorrow, Friday. Chiles recently resigned as president of the Lawton Chiles Foundation, a children’s advocacy organization. His plan, sources say, is to run as an independent.

Imagine that, there might be a possibility that Florida’s next governor and U.S. senator might both be independents. Doesn’t bode well for either party…
