Cabo Cruz
Cabo Cruz is one of those places forgotten by the Cuba’s tour guidebooks. Although it seems but a small dot in the Granma province, there is much to discover in this little town by the Caribbean Sea that points to the Gulf of Guacanayabo.
Cabo Cruz has one street and from the cliff bordering the village, its coral reef is in perfect view through the transparent waters that surround it. Like most towns in Cuba, when you travel through it, people greet you, chat and will invite you for coffee. All steps lead down to the bottom of the village, where the Vargas lighthouse (and the keeper’s house), a landmark built in the second half of the nineteenth century whose original mechanism still works today. Cabo Cruz is magical and refuses to stop being so despite the many hurricanes that periodically decide to visit its shores. It is an enchanted fishing town that tourist guides have forgotten to add to the wonders of Cuba.
