Museum Restaurant in Trinidad

Four years ago the ancient and varied dinnerware that once was used exclusively by the Mariene Ruiz Tápanes family from Trinidad is now available to all those who want to taste the dishes, drinks and teas that are prepared at the 1514 Museum Restaurant in the city of Trinidad, Sancti Spiritus. The place bears a unique name referencing the year when the picturesque village was founded, which will turn 500 this year.

It was with this added value of the traditional and the past that Mariene started her business, as Cuba began slowly easing the reins over private entrepreneurs, and the older and smaller paladares (private restaurants in the homes), with no more than 12 seats, were converted to authentic and dignified restaurants. Today there are many throughout the island.

At the 1514 most of the dinnerware is in full view of the diners and the curious who are interested in this detail. They are objects that belong to the 19th and 20th centuries and were rented by Mariene’s godparents for weddings or parties and used in the candy store they had in their own house, built in 1760.
