Ukraine will modernize Cuba’s air fleet
The Cuban Civil Air Corporation has signed a contract with the Antonov airplane-manufacturing company and the Motor Sich engine-manufacturing company to modernize its fleet of AN-12 planes, Antonov has announced at his headquarters in Kiev.
Both companies are Ukrainian; Motor Sich has its headquarters in Zaporoshye.
According to the contract, Cuba will create a production center for the conversion of its 140 AN-2 planes, using modern turbocharged MS-14 engines manufactured by Motor Sich and AB-17 propellers made by Aerosila in Moscow. Antonov will gather and deliver to Cuba all the necessary parts and will train the Cuban pilots and mechanics.
This year, Antonov began to supply AN-158 airliners to Cubana de AviaciÛn for its regional flights. It has already delivered three and and will deliver a fourth one before the end of the year. Next year, it will deliver three more.
The AN-158 can carry 99 passengers; it has a flight range of 2,500 kilometers.
