Marco Rubio: Florida’s demagogue for U.S. Senate

If you’ve read newspapers this past week you will know by now that Marco Rubio has overtaken Florida Governor Charlie Crist in the most recent polls. Both aim to be the next U.S. senator from Florida.

As mentioned, Crist is our current governor. I can’t say much about Crist. He’s one of those grey-type politicians — wants to do good by everyone. Which is impossible… In the end, he may not do well by anyone’s assessment because of it.

On the other hand, we have the former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. The real chameleon in this race: A man who will do and say whatever it takes to become the Republican Party’s nominee in the 2010 Florida senate race. And Marco has found out that a great many republicans in Florida are the tea party types who want the state to tilt totally to the right — no new taxes, why abide by the class-size amendment, immigrants (which Marco’s parents were, once) be damned… get ‘em outa of the country!

By the way, Crist has accumulated enough campaign cash that sooner or later he will shoot down a lot of these Marco claims, for example, immigration. In other words, what Crist will eventually do in this election is to show Marco for what he is, a demagogue.

It took me four paragraphs to lead to the Jim Morin cartoon below which appeared in The Miami Herald. Nothing like a good caricature to tell a story impossible to tell in several hundred words…
