Vatican condemns the blockade on Cuba
Probable papal visit with Fidel Castro
By Radio Progreso Alternativa (RPA) and Press Agencies
The declaration made by Father Federico Lombardi, head of the Holy See’s press office, continues the line drawn by John Paul II who 15 years ago condemned the blockade on the Island calling it immoral. Lombardi added that Benedict XVI was willing to meet with Cuba’s historical leader Fidel Castro Ruz.
Benedict XVI will arrive in Santiago de Cuba (in the eastern sector of the country) on the 26th of this month and will be received by President Raul Castro Ruz.
The Vatican spokesman, who will accompany His Holiness to Cuba, will be in charge of attending and providing information to the more than 600 correspondents who will cover the papal visit.
