Orlando Bosch, a prominent Cuban exile militant charged and then acquitted in the bombing of a Cuban jetliner in 1976, died in Miami Wednesday. He was 84.
His death came after a lengthy stay in the hospital where he “faced a long and painful illness,” according to a statement issued in the name of the family by anti-Castro activist Pedro Corso who is a family friend. The cause of death was not immediately released.
Bosch was one of two exile militants – the other being Luis Posada Carriles — who throughout the second part of the 20th century were closely identified with the long violent struggle against the Cuban regime.
