New senate bill introduced to allow trading with Cuba

The Freedom to Export to Cuba Act, that would drop the embargo that prohibits the U.S. from trading with or operating in Cuba, was introduced Thursday (Feb. 12) by Sen. Amy Klobuchar, a democrat from Minnesota.

The bipartisan bill comes about two weeks after Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) introduced a bill with Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and Tom Udall (D-N.M.), that would strike-down the U.S. travel embargo on Cuba.

Marc Hanson, a senior associate for Cuba at the Washington Office on Latin America, when discussing the bills with the Washington publication The Hill said, “Very few bills actually make it out of Congress, but I think the array of support is broader than what I’ve see on most other bills.”
