Lo concreto para el 2024 (+English)

Durante su intervención ante la Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular (ANPP), el primer ministro Manuel Marrero Cruz anunció medidas que muestran la profunda crisis de la economía cubana y, por ende, vivenciada por la inmensa mayoría de los ciudadanos.

Si bien abordó todo el universo de la realidad nacional, las precisiones concretas con decisiones prácticamente tomadas, las resumo más abajo. Pero, a menos que estemos ante una entrega por capítulos, no se aprecia en este discurso un definido plan para sacarnos del atolladero.

A continuación, los puntos concretos a estrenarse en 2024 y que afecta directamente a la ciudadanía:

• Las medidas anunciadas abarcan desde el precio de la energía eléctrica, que ascenderá un 25 % a quienes consuman más de 500 Kws/h.
• El servicio de agua no metrada ascenderá de 7 a 21 pesos el metro cúbico.
• El precio del balón de gas ascenderá de 180 a 225 Pesos los de 10 Kgms; y a 1,014 Pesos los de 45 kgms.
• La tarifa del reducido transporte público también será incrementada, pero su estimado no ha sido publicada, al igual que el anunciado incremento del precio de los tabacos y cigarros.
• El precio de los combustibles, tanto para minoristas como para mayoristas, aumentará y “tomará como referencia el precio de venta en la región, aplicando la tasa de cambio oficial”. Los turistas pagaran en divisas y dispondrán de una rede de servicentros.
• Se mantendrá la exención de aranceles a la importación de alimentos y aseo por personas naturales.

What’s in store for 2024

During his speech before the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP), Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz announced measures that show the deep crisis of the Cuban economy and, therefore, experienced by the vast majority of citizens.

Although he addressed the entire universe of national reality, I summarize the specific details with decisions already taken and shown below. But, unless we are dealing with a chapter-by-chapter delivery, there is no clear plan in this speech to get us out of the quagmire.

Below are the specific points to be released in 2024 that directly affect citizens:

• The announced measures range from the price of electricity, which will increase by 25% for those who consume more than 500 kW/h.
• The non-metered water service will increase from 7 to 21 pesos per cubic meter.
• The price of the gas cylinder will rise from 180 to 225 Pesos for 10 Kgms; and at 1,014 pesos for 45 kgms.
• The fare for reduced public transportation will also be increased, but its estimate has not been published, as has the announced increase in the price of tobacco and cigarettes.
• The price of fuel, both for retailers and wholesalers, will increase and “will take as a reference the sales price in the region, applying the official exchange rate.” Tourists will pay in foreign currency and will have a network of service centers.
• The exemption from tariffs on the importation of food and hygiene by natural persons will be maintained.
