Hawks and vultures

Three hawks and vultures,
will now divvy up
whatever wasn’t stolen
by yesterday’s gang,
now kicked out of office.

Between hawks and vultures,
my poor empty pockets
sigh, empty of hope;
don’t believe in politicians,
only in my empty belly.

Between hawks and vultures,
what will become of us?
Get the suitcases ready,
the sneakers and guayaberas,
long live the banana republic!

– Homero
