Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart is dead by suicide

Fidel Castro’s oldest son, 68-year-old Fidel Angel Castro Diaz-Balart, who was being treated by a group of doctors for several months due to a deep depression, committed suicide earlier today, February 1.

As part of his treatment, he initially was hospitalized and then continued as an outpatient, with follow-up visits as he was reincorporated into his daily routine.

At the time of his death he served as Scientific Advisor to the Council of State and Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba.

During his professional life, dedicated entirely to sciences, he obtained relevant national and international recognitions.
