One of three survivors of the Havana plane crash dies

HAVANA – Grettel Landrove, 23, one of the three survivors of the April 19 air disaster died at 3:45 on Monday (May 21) afternoon. The news was made public during the 8 p.m. Cuban TV newscast.

A native of the eastern province of Holguín, where the flight was headed, she had traveled to Havana for a surgery on a hematoma of the brain tissue, explained Dr. Carlos Alberto Martínez, Director of the Calixto García Iñíguez University Hospital in the Cuban capital. Previously, Ms. Landrove’s prognosis had been reported as the most unfavorable of the three survivors.

The other two who remain alive are Mailen Díaz, 19, and Emiley Sánchez, 39. Both are still in critical condition.

The Boeing 737-200, of the Mexican company Damojh, leased by Cubana de Aviación, crashed about two kilometers from Havana’s José Martí International Airport on the Friday 19th a little bit after noon.
