Transportation

“Transportation” is not just another term. It’s more a concept, a thing for recently arrived Cuban Americans. Linguistically, it may not be misleading. To say “transportation” in a Cuban way is more like saying “a way to get around,” no more. But when you get to Miami, among the new words you learn, like “printear” and “submitir” (anglicized words meaning to print and to submit), etc. you will also find “transportation,” whose definition is still not very clear, by the way. At least not among us…

When asking one another nobody really knows at what stage a car is considered a “transportation.” The boundaries are unclear. Example: Is an ’89 Chevy a “transportation” or an antique? What of a 2008 Honda Civic? Knowing that it is 2014, where are the limits? The truth is that even if these time limits are for convenience, the essence of the concept seems to lie rather in the fact of the purchase is to get me going…

Note: This gallery does not literally photograph “transportations”; it only pretends to play with the demolition they will one day suffer. That WE will suffer?
