McCain’s vote might afford us some leftover ‘cake’ when it comes to our healthcare

McCain’s vote might afford us some leftover ‘cake’ when it comes to our healthcare

Now what? This was the two word question that dominated the conversation yesterday after the procedural vote taken by the U.S. Senate allowing them to debate the elimination and replacement of the Affordable Care Act, known by most as Obamacare.

The rape of Miami by Loria and Samson

The rape of Miami by Loria and Samson

Rape is a heinous crime. It should never be tolerated. And yet, a group of Miami community “leaders” are allowing the owners of the Miami Marlins to get away with it. There are also their enablers that include certain mayors and commissioners from Miami and Miami-Dade.

David Rivera’s in trouble again; Feds to the rescue

David Rivera’s in trouble again; Feds to the rescue

The FEC is seeking $486,000 in civil penalties against David Rivera. The FEC’s civil case is the latest indication that Miami federal prosecutors don’t intend to criminally charge Rivera — even though U.S. District Judge Robert Scola took the extraordinary step of forcing the Feds to name Rivera as the target of their investigation back in 2014.

Trumpster brainiacs deride Declaration of Independence as ‘biased’

Trumpster brainiacs deride Declaration of Independence as ‘biased’

Strangely, if it wasn’t for the fact that the people I write about today are Trump voters, sentences from the Declaration of Independence were derided on the 4th of July as biased by brainiacs who referred to excerpts from the Declaration as “trash” without knowledge of where the words originated.

Rubio, Diaz-Balart and Curbelo: Faustian enablers of ‘Anything but Obamacare’

Rubio, Diaz-Balart and Curbelo: Faustian enablers of ‘Anything but Obamacare’

The three Cuban American members of Congress from south Florida have made a deal with the devil to get rid of Obamacare in favor of a bill that the Congressional Budget Office has determined will leave 22 million Americans without health insurance. More than 600,000 of them from right here in the Miami area.

Trump’s Miami visit: More questions than answers

Trump’s Miami visit: More questions than answers

Miami is in an uproar with speculation of what may be coming after almost three years of political thaw between the U.S. and Cuba. Nobody seems to really know what this Friday might bring us. In fact, not everyone is sure that President Trump will address the Cuba rollback during his visit to Miami.

Curbelo succumbs to pressure and votes against his constituents

Curbelo succumbs to pressure and votes against his constituents

When I read Rep. Carlos Curbelo’s op-ed piece in the Miami Herald last week I knew the south Florida legislator from congressional district 26 was worried about his chances in next year’s election. Curbelo’s district has some of the highest numbers of people in the nation whose health care is covered by the Affordable Care Act

Trumpcare’s a killer: Diaz Balart and Curbelo don’t care

Trumpcare’s a killer: Diaz Balart and Curbelo don’t care

Backers of Trumpcare don’t care whether you live or die. Add two south Florida names to the list of the members of Congress who don’t care: U.S. Representatives Mario Diaz Balart and Carlos Curbelo. Both voted this past week to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a bill nobody knows for sure what it stands for.

And the rich keep getting richer

And the rich keep getting richer

The news is that Jeffrey Loria will soon sell the Miami Marlins. The buyers are a team of investors put together by former Florida governor Jeb Bush and retired Yankees great, soon to be in the Hall of Fame, Derek Jeter. The Bush-Jeter group will pay $1.3 billion for the baseball team.

Some ask why more people don’t vote

Some ask why more people don’t vote

Why are voters participating less and less in our democratic process? People are in fact fed up with lying and cheating politicians whose only interest seems to be themselves. Are there solutions for the problems of bad leadership? One is to do the opposite of what many decide when they get sick of what’s happening.
