New polls: Crist 3, Scott 0; Wyllie makes impact

By Scott Bihr

Charlie Crist is on a hot streak.

The Democratic challenger went 3-for-3 in new polls released this week, while Libertarian candidate Adrian Wyllie cracked double-digits in one of them.

Here’s the skinny:

  • 0ptimus Consulting: Crist 40 percent, Republican Gov. Rick Scott 39 percent, Wyllie 13 percent.
  • Public Policy Polling: Crist 45 percent, Scott 43 percent, Wyllie 8 percent.
  • Survey USA/WFLA: Crist 44 percent, Scott 42 percent, Wyllie 6 percent.

Obviously, the polls are good news for Crist and Wyllie. Crist is in much better shape than he was two weeks ago and has flipped a small Scott lead to his favor.

But keep in mind that the polls remain close and fall within their respective margins of error.

The closeness of the race is reflected in The News-Press forecast model, which puts the probability that Crist will defeat Scott at 52.4 percent, basically a coin flip. Crist is projected to eke out a 46.8 to 46.6 victory over Scott, with Wyllie collecting 6.6 percent.
